In the last four or five years we have been focusing primarily on threat intelligence and threat analysis and risk analysis and management,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The institute&#8217;s cybersecurity graduate students will work with TD technology teams to develop new ways to detect and deal with online threats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur teams are developing next-generation technology solutions in partnership with leading industry players like TD, deepening defences against emerging cyber threats not just in Canada but around the world,\u201d Ghorbani said.<\/p>\n<p>Frank McKenna, deputy chairman at TD, said protecting online data is \u201cmission critical\u201d for the bank because they are under constant attacks from hackers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have 25 million customers and their data is a sacred trust,\u201d McKenna said in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur technology teams have looked all over the world and we&#8217;re extraordinarily pleased to find some of the world&#8217;s leading experts are right at UNB.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McKenna said the bank plans to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in the institute and will open an office on site with up to 20 employees to start with.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Canadian centre is needed, despite the fact that TD also recently announced the opening of a cybersecurity office in Israel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsrael is an acknowledged expert in cybersecurity but UNB is also recognized as a global expert in cybersecurity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>McKenna said the bank is already collaborating with the university and will begin investing the money and developing office space in the coming year.<\/p>\n<p>There have been reports that estimate the global cost of cybercrime exceeded $600 billion last year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FREDERICTON \u00a0\u2014 \u00a0The TD Bank Group has become the first Canadian bank to join the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity \u00a0\u2014 &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":119712,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[18],"tags":[50453,7010],"class_list":["post-162238","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news-ca","tag-canadian-cybersecurity-institute","tag-td-bank","mauthors-kevin-bissett","mauthors-the-canadian-press"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/162238","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=162238"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/162238\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/119712"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=162238"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=162238"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=162238"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
