Come home.\u00a0<em>Tutal madami nang trabaho sa Pilipinas<\/em>\u00a0(There are many jobs in the Philippines),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Funds from China<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Duterte said Chinese President Xi Jinping \u201cgave\u201d the Philippine government funds which were already set aside for another project. However, he would instead use them to spend for Filipino workers in Kuwait who want to return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will be frank with you, China is a very good friend. When I was there last week,\u00a0<em>may binigay si<\/em>\u00a0President Xi Jinping (Presdent Xi Jinping gave us something),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Sana gagamitin ko yun sa ibang<\/em>\u00a0project, actually I\u2019ll tell you its about 4 point something, almost 5 billion. Y<em>ung pera na yan gagastuhin ko nalang para kunin ang lahat ng gustong umuwi<\/em>\u00a0(That money I will spend to get all Filipino workers who want to come home),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte did not give further details about the funds given by the Chinese President but said that he was willing to spend it to the last centavo just to assure that Filipno workers are safe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have that money which was intended for education.<em>\u00a0Gagastusin ko \u2018yan<\/em>\u00a0to the last centravo.\u00a0<em>Tulong ng<\/em>\u00a0China\u00a0<em>\u2018yan<\/em>\u00a0(I will spend it to the last centavo. That\u2019s help from China),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte also acknowledged the long history of friendship between the two countries but did not know how long it will take to resolve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are put to a test how long we can work this out\u2026I do not want to destroy a good neighbor or friend because<em>\u00a0ilang<\/em>\u00a0years<em>\u00a0din sila tumulong sa\u2019tin<\/em>\u00a0(because they have been helping us for many years),\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p>Conflict between the Philippines and Kuwait arose after the Kuwaiti government took insult for the action taken by staff of the Philippine embassy for conducting rescue operations early this week without coordinating with its government.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte earlier imposed a total deployment ban on new workers to Kuwait after the murder of Joanna Demafelis, along with a series of reported abuse and maltreatment inflicted upon Filipino domestic workers.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippines and Kuwait are supposed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the protection of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in the Gulf state after this year\u2019s Ramadan in June.<\/p>\n<p>Roque said that at present, he could only \u201csurmise\u201d the MOU\u2019s fate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I do not know anymore what will happen to the MOU, I could only surmise,\u201d Roque said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not know, everything is up in the air now with recent developments Kuwaiti ambassador (Musaed Saleh Ahmad Althwaikh) being recalled and [the] Philippine ambassador (Renato Villa) being declared persona non grata,&#8221; Roque added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u00a0&#8212; President Rodrigo R.
