(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/senateph\/photos\/rpp.749071305117153\/1859833417374264\/?type=3&amp;theater\">Photo<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/senateph\/\">Senate of the Philippines\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III on Thursday, April 26, said he is willing to become the next Senate President if his colleagues would give him this opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the weekly Kapihan sa Senado, Sotto said \u201cI\u2019m open to that if they offer it or they will give it to me.\u00a0<em>Sino naman ako para tumanggi <\/em>(Who am I to resist)<em>?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Since the start of the 17<sup>th<\/sup> Congress, Sotto revealed that his fellow senators were already urging him to become the upper house\u2019s president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Yung ibang mga kasama namin<\/em> (Some of our colleagues) during that time were asking me to seek the Senate presidency but because we wanted\u00a0a smooth\u00a0relationship although independent, we wanted a partymate of the President to lead the Senate,\u201d\u00a0the senator, who has been in Congress since 1992, said.<\/p>\n<p>The Majority Leader also confirmed that a possible change in Senate leadership was brought up in their discussion as incumbent Senate President Aquilino \u201cKoko\u201d Pimentel III, president of ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), needs to prepare for re-election in 2019.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cNapag usapan namin yan, dumaan sa usapan namin yan, na<\/em> (We have talked about it, it came up in our discussion that) perhaps\u00a0we can talk\u00a0about it\u2026 before the filing of\u00a0Certficate of Candidacy, something to that effect,\u201d Sotto stressed.<\/p>\n<p>He added that they will consider the leadership of the Senate again and will consult its members because \u201cIt\u2019s always a consensus, it will be a majority decision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sotto earlier this month refuted talks of term-sharing between him and Pimentel, adding that the Senate leadership should be decided by the majority of senators and not only by two people.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAng<\/em> term-sharing <em>hindi maganda pakinggan para sa mga senador sapagkat ano dalawa lang kayo nagu-usap kung sino<\/em> leader? <em>Hindi pwede \u2018yun <\/em>(The term-sharing is not good to be heard for senators because what only the of you will discuss who is going to be the leader?
