China\u2019s official military newspaper reported that the country erected a monument on the Fiery Cross Reef which lies along the Spratly Islands to mark all its construction activities.<\/p>\n

According to Reuters, the People\u2019s Liberation Army Daily report said that the monument was unveiled on April 23, Monday, in one of the artificial islands that China made.\u00a0 The said country\u2019s construction included military facilities and airstrips.<\/p>\n

The newspaper report further said that this monument signifies China\u2019s message of \u201cdetermination to protect its territory and maritime rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

Philippine Star quoted Magdalo Partylist Representative Gary Alejano who said that this monument is a \u201cslap to the faces\u201d of other claimant countries which include the Philippines.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis just shows the determination and boldness of China to continue pursuing its objectives in the SCS (South China Sea) without respect to international laws and the sovereignty of other states,\u201d Alejano said.<\/p>\n

He also said that the administration led by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte should protest the latest movements by China.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe intentions of China to control the South China Sea are becoming more apparent.<\/p>\n

The developments in the South China Sea raised tensions between China and other neighboring claimant countries.<\/p>\n

On January, the Philippine government, through Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, said\u00a0it will register a diplomatic protest against China\u2019s militarization of the Fiery Cross Reef.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur stand here is that we will register our protest through the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) because I know for a fact that the Chinese government said some time ago that they are not going to militarize those reclaimed islands,\u201d Lorenzana told the media in a press briefing on January 8.<\/p>\n
