MANILA — Mild earthquakes shook the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Surigao del Norte, and Cagayan on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).<\/span><\/p>\n

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the first quake with a magnitude of 3.0 occurred at 12:20 a.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

The epicenter of the quake was traced some 19 kilometers southeast of Carasi in ilocos Norte.<\/span><\/p>\n

The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 12 kilometers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The second quake with a magnitude 3.4 occurred around 12:58 a.m. with the epicenter traced some 40 kilometers northwest of Burgos in Surigao del Norte.<\/span><\/p>\n

The quake, which was also tectonic in origin, had a depth of eight kilometers.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the other hand, the other tremor with a magnitude of 4.1 happened at 9:54 a.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

Phivolcs said its epicenter was estimated 102 kilometers northwest of Calayan in Cagayan.<\/span><\/p>\n

It said the temblor, which was also tectonic in origin, had a shallow depth of 28 kilometers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Phivolcs said there was no damage reported from the three tremors.<\/span><\/p>\n

It added that no aftershocks are expected from these quakes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 20 to 25 earthquakes per day — mostly imperceptible — are common, Phivolcs said.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
