Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno is now ready to answer all questions from her colleagues as she will be attending the Supreme Court\u2019s (SC) oral arguments on the quo warranto petition lodged against the top magistrate, her camp announced on Wednesday, April 4.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes. She will attend the oral argument on April 10 to give her side on the Petition for Quo Warranto filed by SolGen (Solicitor General) Calida,\u201d Lawyer Jojo Lacanilao, Sereno\u2019s spokesperson, was quoted as saying in a Philippine Daily Inquirer report.<\/p>\n

Sereno, who is currently on leave to prepare for a possible impeachment trial, was ordered by her fellow magistrates to attend the proceedings which will be held in Baguio City.<\/p>\n

The quo warranto, a petition filed to challenge a person\u2019s authority over the position he or she holds, was filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida on March 5, 2018.<\/p>\n

In his petition, Calida said that Sereno was \u201cunlawfully holding\u201d her position as the Chief Justice, and that she failed to prove her integrity as an applicant for the judiciary\u2019s top post.<\/p>\n

According to the Solicitor General, Sereno was not able to submit her statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs), one of the requirements set by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).<\/p>\n

The Chief Justice sought the dismissal of the pleading, saying that she could only be ousted through an impeachment.<\/p>\n

On March 19, the House of Representative Committee on Justice approved six drafts of the impeachment articles against Sereno.<\/p>\n

Chair of the Justice committee of the lower chamber Oriental Mindoro Representative Reynaldo Umali said that the impeachment article drafts included 24 out of 27 of the \u201cimpeachable acts\u201d by Attorney Lorenzo \u201cLarry\u201d Gadon.<\/p>\n

Sereno was appointed to the high court in 2012 by former President Benigno Aquino III, replacing the late chief magistrate Renato Corona who was ousted for undeclared wealth.<\/p>\n

The Chief Justice was expected to remain in her position until she reaches the mandatory age, 70.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
