{"id":158751,"date":"2018-04-04T01:42:23","date_gmt":"2018-04-04T05:42:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=158751"},"modified":"2018-04-04T01:42:23","modified_gmt":"2018-04-04T05:42:23","slug":"duterte-willing-to-re-open-peace-talks-with-rebels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/04\/04\/duterte-willing-to-re-open-peace-talks-with-rebels\/","title":{"rendered":"Duterte willing to re-open peace talks with rebels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Rodrigo Duterte is willing to re-open peace negotiations with Communist rebels under some conditions.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech during his visit in Oriental Mindoro, the president addressed the NPA, stressing that they are not enemies and that he is looking forward to having a peaceful talk with them.<br \/>\n<span class=\"im\"><br \/>\nTo prove that he is very much open to this, Duterte said he is even ready to subsidize the peace process, to pay for the hotel and the\u00a0<\/span>Left\u2019s expenses.<br \/>\n<span class=\"im\"><br \/>\nBut for this to take place, Duterte said they have to stop pushing for a revolutionary government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou stop your revolutionary government, stop burning in the name of taxation because the businessmen are pitiful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>But despite demanding the rebels to stop carrying out revolutionary\u00a0<\/span>tax, Duterte said he understands why there is a need for them to do\u00a0<span class=\"im\">so.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou call it a revolutionary tax. That\u2019s okay with me because they are rebels. And we can understand it, that you die for your principle. The problem is we are also willing to die for what we believe is right,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n<p><\/span>The president also expressed willingness to meet in the middle with the NPA.<br \/>\n<span class=\"im\"><br \/>\n\u201cAnd so if we can have a middle ground, I am not closing all doors because that forever is not true,\u201d Duterte said, associating it with a lovers quarrel that if today is bad\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\"><span class=\"aQJ\">tomorrow<\/span><\/span>\u00a0it will be over.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>(DAILY NEWS ROUND UP FOR 04\/ 4 \/18)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Rodrigo Duterte is willing to re-open peace negotiations with Communist rebels under some conditions.
