I fear that this list may be used to intimidate and harass individuals and organizations whose legitimate causes are pushing for an agenda of change,\u201d Maza said on Wednesday, March 14.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot allow such irreparable damage to the prospects of resuming the peace talks,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>She urged the Justice Department to withdraw the petition and called for the immediate resumption of the peace talks with the communist rebels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a time when Filipinos are clamoring for a long-awaited end to our country&#8217;s many long-standing woes, such as poverty, there is simply no place for persecution and intimidation,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n<p>Maza said that the government could not ignore or deny the roots of armed conflict \u201cby going after the members and leaders of democratic organization that are advocating for comprehensive solutions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that the administration must ensure that there is enough space for \u201cmeaningful and democratic\u201d participation of the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnly then can the country move closer once again to achieving just and lasting peace,\u201d Maza stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the DOJ filed the petition before the National Capital Region (NCR) Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 19.<\/p>\n<p>According to the petition, the list included CPP founding chairman Jose Maria Sison \u201cJoma\u201d Sison, United Nations (UN) special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples Victoria Tauli-Corpuz, and several members of the communist group.<\/p>\n<p>This appeal was filed pursuant to Section 17 of Republic Act (RA) No. 9372 of \u2018The Human Security Act of 2007.\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Anti-Poverty Commission Lead Convenor Liza Maza denounced the petition filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) seeking to formally &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":145683,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1145,16,95],"tags":[37493,3466,42843,48063],"class_list":["post-156705","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-headline","category-news","category-news-ph","tag-cpp-npa","tag-department-of-justice","tag-liza-maza","tag-terrorist-tag","mauthors-joanna-belle-deala","mauthors-philippine-canadian-inquirer"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/156705","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=156705"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/156705\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/145683"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=156705"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=156705"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=156705"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
