The office did not say how Trump reacted\u00a0tothe\u00a0plans.<\/p>\n<p>North\u00a0Korean officials visiting the\u00a0South\u00a0for the recently concluded Pyeongchang Winter Olympics have said leader Kim Jong Un wants\u00a0to\u00a0hold a summit with\u00a0Moon\u00a0and that\u00a0NorthKorea\u00a0aims\u00a0to\u00a0open talk with the United States.<\/p>\n<p>North\u00a0Korea\u00a0sent around 500 people\u00a0to\u00a0the Olympics, including high-level officials, athletes, artists, journalists and cheerleaders in part of conciliatory gestures with the\u00a0South\u00a0that brought a temporary lull\u00a0to\u00a0tensions surrounding the\u00a0North&#8217;s nuclear program.<\/p>\n<p>Experts say the\u00a0North&#8217;s outreach over the Olympics shows its ambition\u00a0to\u00a0break out of diplomatic isolation and pressure by improving relations with the\u00a0South\u00a0and using that as a bridge\u00a0to\u00a0approach the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Visiting as a special\u00a0envoy, Kim Yo Jong, the sister of Kim Jong Un, told\u00a0Moon\u00a0that her brother wishes\u00a0to\u00a0meet\u00a0Moon\u00a0in\u00a0North\u00a0Korea\u00a0soon.\u00a0Kim Yong Chol, a vice chairman of\u00a0NorthKorea&#8217;s ruling Workers&#8217; Party Central Committee, during his talks with\u00a0Moon\u00a0said the\u00a0North\u00a0has \u201cample intentions\u201d for holding talks with the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Moon\u00a0has yet\u00a0to\u00a0firmly commit\u00a0to\u00a0a summit, saying that the\u00a0Koreas\u00a0must first create an \u201cenvironment\u201d for that\u00a0to\u00a0happen. Trump has responded\u00a0to\u00a0North\u00a0Korea&#8217;s overture by saying that talks with\u00a0North\u00a0Korea\u00a0will happen only if conditions are right.
