MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0— President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Noel Kinazo Felangco as new chairperson of the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP).<\/p>\n

Felangco, whose appointment was signed by President Duterte on Feb. 1, replaced Terry Ridon who was dismissed for excessive foreign travels.<\/p>\n

A native of Davao City, Felongco was a former undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and has served as president of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino- Laban ng Bayan (PDP Laban) Central Visayas.<\/p>\n

Duterte has also appointed Romeo Halasan Jandugan as PCUP commissioner, replacing Melissa Aradanas.<\/p>\n

Jandugan joined two other PCUP commissioners Randy Halasan and Norman Baloro.<\/p>\n

The appointments of Felongco and Jandugan were released to the media on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The PCUP was created through Executive Order No. 82 signed by the late former President Corazon Aquino on December 8, 1986.<\/p>\n

PCUP serves as \u201cdirect link of the urban poor to the government in policy formulation and program implementation addressed to their needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

On March 29, 2012, Aquino\u2019s son, former President Benigno Aquino III, issued Executive Order No. 69, strengthening the PCUP and transferring it to the Office of the President.\u00a0(PNA)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
