But what would be the components of our demands and our insistence? Well, we can only be diplomatic. We can only be talking on friendly and civilized terms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the President also noted that while he was clear about claims and ownership, it was still important to maintain good ties with the Asian giant.<\/p>\n<p>Duterte, who was reacting to China\u2019s naming then said, \u201cE<em><i>h alangan namang gawin nilang<\/i><\/em>\u00a0German, <em><i>ang alam lang nila <\/i><\/em>Chinese <em><i>eh <\/i><\/em>(Well you cannot expect them to name [the undersea features] in German when all they know is Chinese).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose are just directions <em><i>na tapos na sila d\u2019yan<\/i><\/em>\u00a0(that they are finished there). Of course, they do it in Chinese because it\u2019s their dialect. <em><i>Alangan i-Tagalog mo \u2018yan<\/i><\/em>\u00a0(You cannot expect them to use Tagalog),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>On February 14, the Palace through Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Jr. protested China\u2019s move.<\/p>\n<p>(Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/02\/14\/palace-on-ph-rise-chinese-names-we-object\/\">Palace on PH Rise Chinese names: We object<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe object and do not recognize the Chinese names given to some undersea features in the Philippine Rise,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, maritime law expert Jay Batongbacal, who also revealed China\u2019s move, said it may be too late.<\/p>\n<p>(Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/02\/15\/expert-ph-protest-on-chinese-names-maybe-too-late\/\">Expert: PH protest on Chinese names maybe too late<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em><i>Hindi ko alam kung mag-wo-<\/i><\/em>work <em><i>iyan[g<\/i><\/em>\u00a0protest] <em><i>dahil tapos na ang proseso. <\/i><\/em>Open ang process. It was transparent. So <em><i>parang medyo nakakahiya rin naman sa atin na<\/i><\/em>\u00a0too late the hero <em><i>naman tayo na biglang mag-o-<\/i><\/em>object (I do not know if that protest will work because the process is done. The process was open. It was transparent.
