Duterte (PNA photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>President Rodrigo Duterte segued an order barring members of his Cabinet to use low-numbered or protocol license plates.<\/p>\n<p>The President in a speech during the oath taking of newly-appointed officials on February 13 was talking about the policemen\u2019s service to the country when he suddenly remembered the topic of plate numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kaya pala \u2018yung<\/em> (That is why the) plate number&#8230; By the way, <em>wala akong<\/em> (I have no) plate number. I do not use it,\u201d Duterte inserted in the middle of his speech.<\/p>\n<p>He then added, \u201cAnd no Cabinet member is allowed to use the \u20186.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Duterte who is entitled to have the \u20181\u2019 number said, \u201cYou\u2019re a very lonely man and you will die of boredom there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The President mentioned the number \u20182\u2019 license plate entitled for the Vice President but did not elaborate much on it saying that he will just allow it.<\/p>\n<p>Other low number assignments include \u20183\u2019 for the Senate President, \u20184\u2019 for the Speaker of the House of Representatives, \u20185\u2019 for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, \u20187\u2019 for the senators\u2019 and \u20188\u2019 for the congressmen.<\/p>\n<p>Back in September last year during the lower chamber\u2019s transportation committee hearing, Ilocos Norte Representative Rodolfo Fari\u00f1as proposed to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for lawmakers to be exempted from \u2018minor\u2019 traffic violations through a \u201cparliamentary immunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fari\u00f1as admitted that he was strict when it came to late-comers during House of Representatives sessions, but he also mentioned that the country\u2019s problem with the heavy traffic is affecting the solons\u2019 performance in their service as well.<\/p>\n<p>However, Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Order No. 2014-004 or Guidelines on the issuance and use of protocol plates, states that \u201cprotocol plates are likewise not exempt from traffic laws and local ordinances, such as the number coding.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Rodrigo Duterte segued an order barring members of his Cabinet to use low-numbered or protocol license plates.
