She was 61.<\/p>\n<p>Her husband, actor and playwright Robert Emmet Lunney, says she died on Sunday at her Manhattan home following a long battle with cancer.<\/p>\n<p>Maxwell made her Broadway debut as an understudy in the 1989 production of the musical \u201cCity of Angels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She received five Tony Award nominations over the course of her career, the first in 2005 for the musical \u201cChitty Chitty Bang Bang.\u201d She also was nominated for her work in \u201cCoram Boy\u201d in 2007, \u201cLend Me a Tenor\u201d and \u201cThe Royal Family,\u201d both in 2010, and \u201cFollies\u201d in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Maxwell also appeared on the small screen in episodes of shows including \u201cLaw &amp; Order,\u201d \u201cAll My Children,\u201d \u201cGossip Girl\u201d and \u201cThe Good Wife.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK \u2014 Broadway star and five-time Tony Award nominee Jan Maxwell has died.
