{"id":152365,"date":"2018-02-12T01:07:11","date_gmt":"2018-02-12T06:07:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=152365"},"modified":"2018-02-12T01:07:11","modified_gmt":"2018-02-12T06:07:11","slug":"chr-says-lesser-deaths-in-pnps-recent-campaign-against-illegal-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/02\/12\/chr-says-lesser-deaths-in-pnps-recent-campaign-against-illegal-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"CHR says lesser deaths in PNP\u2019s recent campaign against illegal drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Amid its criticism of the government\u2019s drug war, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) acknowledged the Philippine National Police\u2019s (PNP) improved operations in the campaign against illegal drugs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe cannot discount the fact that there&#8217;s an improvement from last year,&#8221; CHR spokesperson Jackie de Guia said\u00a0<span>on Monday<\/span>\u00a0in an interview on Unang Balita, pertaining to the decreased number of deaths from police operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">De Guia added that he is hoping the PNP could carry out its operations the way the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has executed it when they were assigned to solely handle the campaign against drugs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;We hope that it will be a total improvement so that it will be really a bloodless campaign and they can implement the RA (Republic Act) 1965 just like what PDEA did, \u201cshe said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Moreover, De Guia said that the CHR is closely observing how the \u201cOplan Tokhang\u201d is being accomplished, stressing it is not yet the best time to comment on the PNP\u2019s performance for they have just reopened its operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u201cWe are closely monitoring the implementation of the Oplan Tokhang. Of course, that is just one component of the campaign against drugs. There are still a lot of operations happening every day.
