Cathey, best known for \u201cHouse of Cards\u201d and \u201cThe Wire,\u201d has died.<\/p>\n<p>Cathey died at age 59, according to a statement from Netflix published in numerous reports. No other details were given.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Wire\u201d creator David Simon, announcing his death in a tweet on Friday, called him a \u201cfine, masterful actor\u201d and \u201cdelightful\u201d person. Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock also tweeted tributes.<\/p>\n<p>The Huntsville, Alabama native was known for his deep voice and down to earth characters. Cathey&#8217;s portrayal of barbecue joint owner Freddy Hayes in \u201cHouse of Cards\u201d brought him three Emmy nominations and one win, in 2015. His other credits included \u201cInside Amy Schumer\u201d and \u201cStar Trek: The Next Generation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK \u2014 Emmy-winning actor Reg E.
