{"id":152105,"date":"2018-02-10T20:54:13","date_gmt":"2018-02-11T01:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=152105"},"modified":"2018-02-10T20:54:13","modified_gmt":"2018-02-11T01:54:13","slug":"new-study-reveals-most-in-demand-occupations-in-canada-in-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/02\/10\/new-study-reveals-most-in-demand-occupations-in-canada-in-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"New study reveals most in-demand occupations in Canada in 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coding skills especially sought after by Canadian IT employers<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_152107\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-152107\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Optimized-coding-300x213.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-152107\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Optimized-coding-300x213.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: CIC News \" width=\"300\" height=\"213\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-152107\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo: CIC News<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A new study detailing the most in-demand occupations in Canada in 2018 shows business analysts, IT project managers and software engineers among the top 10.<\/p>\n<p>The annual study by the human resources company Randstad Canada showed business analysts in fifth place, IT project managers in seventh place and software engineers ranking ninth overall.<\/p>\n<p>The study looked at job openings, job placements and other data from various Canadian markets that were collected and compiled by Randstad Canada and business research consultants CEB\/Gartner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTech continues to be one of Canada\u2019s best job sectors, rapidly adding new jobs for developers and analysts of all kinds,\u201d the study says.<\/p>\n<p>The findings were published on the eve of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau first visit to San Francisco, where he pitched Canada as a destination for U.S. tech companies.<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau and the Canadian government are working to capitalize on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cicnews.com\/2018\/01\/latest-h-1b-news-parallels-spike-in-u-s-searches-on-canadian-immigration-0110052.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">uncertainty among tech companies and skilled foreign tech workers<\/a> in the United States caused by President Donald Trump\u2019s hard-line policies on immigration and trade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"top-btn\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/assess\/canada-immigration-assessment-form.htm?site=cic&amp;cat=artop#skw=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Find out if you are eligible for Canadian Immigration by filling out our FREE online assessment form.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Coding skills \u201cintensely in demand\u201d<\/h3>\n<p>Drilling down into its IT-sector findings, the study says developers \u201cwith knowledge of both front and back-end coding are intensely in demand,\u201d especially full stack developers. Java remained the top developer skill, with SQL in second. Python and .net are also considered in-demand.<\/p>\n<p>The study listed the top 8 tech-sector jobs as:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Project manager<\/li>\n<li>Software engineer<\/li>\n<li>Web developer<\/li>\n<li>Program analyst<\/li>\n<li>Java developer<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Randstad says Canada\u2019s IT sector employs 488,000 professionals and added 11,500 new jobs in 2017. Nearly 50 per cent of those jobs (5,000) were created in Toronto and 2,000 were created in Montreal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-10191 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/4597wq4asyz01jes8rz3yr94-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Top-5-Best-Tech-Jobs-in-2018.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Targeted IT immigration programs<\/h3>\n<p>The demand for workers with tech expertise has led Canada and a number of its provinces to implement targeted immigration programs designed to facilitate their entry into the country.<\/p>\n<p>The federal government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/global-talent-stream.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Talent Stream<\/a> was created last year to expedite the processing of work permits for highly skilled workers in a number of tech occupations.<\/p>\n<p>At the provincial level, British Columbia holds weekly draws for tech workers with a job offer through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/bc-pnp-tech-pilot.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tech Pilot program<\/a> and Ontario <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cicnews.com\/2017\/06\/ontario-express-entry-stream-targets-information-and-communications-technology-workers-069278.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has conducted tech-specific searches<\/a> of the federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/express-entry.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Express Entry pool<\/a> through its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/ontario-express-entry-human-capital-priorities-stream.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Human Capital Priorities Stream<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tech jobs also figure prominently among the in-demand occupations in provinces such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/sinp-international-skilled-worker-category.html#In-DemandOccupationsList\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Saskatchewan<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/manitoba-skilled-worker-immigration-stream.html#indemand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manitobal<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/new-brunswick-express-entry-labour-market-stream.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Brunswick<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/nova-scotia-demand-express-entry.html#OpportunityOccupations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nova Scotia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>General labourers top overall list<\/h3>\n<p>In terms of Randstad\u2019s overall list of in-demand jobs in Canada, general labourers led the top 10, with sales representatives and accountants rounding out the top
