{"id":14887,"date":"2014-06-13T20:16:31","date_gmt":"2014-06-13T12:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=14887"},"modified":"2014-06-19T23:58:44","modified_gmt":"2014-06-19T15:58:44","slug":"phl-calls-for-real-action-vs-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/06\/13\/phl-calls-for-real-action-vs-climate-change\/","title":{"rendered":"PHL calls for real action vs climate change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_14891\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14891\" style=\"width: 240px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/climate-change.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14891\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/climate-change.jpg\" alt=\"Climate change satellite image. \/ Wikipedia Photo \" width=\"240\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14891\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Climate change satellite image. \/ Wikipedia Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">MANILA &#8212; An official from the Philippines&#8217; Climate Change Commission (CCC) urged nations to act on climate change and do away with blaming.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">During her speech at a high-level ministerial dialogue in Bonn, Germany, CCC Vice-Chairperson Lucille Sering called other delegations to \u201cdo what we need to do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">She asked world ministers attending the dialogue to \u201csimplify the goals and not be trapped by agenda that tilt the balance of fairness, one that tramples the principles of this convention.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Sering headed a delegation to the high-level Ministerial dialogues on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Actions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">The high-level ministerial dialogue was organized by United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as part of the climate negotiations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Nations that ratified the Kyoto Protocol send a delegation to the annual Conference of Parties (COP) to discuss initiatives to address climate change both on a national and global scale.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Last year, COP 19 produced the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">An Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action was established and tasked to develop a protocol, another legal instrument or an agreed outcome with legal force that would be adopted at COP 21 in Paris, France.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">The dialogue is expected to build confidence and momentum behind the process of preparations of fair and ambitious nationally determined contributions by all Parties under the Durban Platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Views on political implications of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) findings, both for mitigation and adaptation, will also be discussed during the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Sering also challenged other nations to fulfill their carbon reduction pledges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">\u201cPledges should not remain as such,\u201d she said. \u201cAmbition should not remain as such.
