Tugade\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After several government employees were axed for their alleged junkets, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade said that he has become stricter in approving official travels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to change now our form as mandated by the Office of the President,\u201d Tugade said in an interview with ANC on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Ngayon, \u2018pag merong magbibiyahe, bigyan mo ko ng<\/em> history <em>ng<\/em> travel (Now, if someone will travel, they have to give me a history of their travels). <em>Ilang beses kang nag<\/em>-travel? <em>Saan ka nagpunta<\/em>? (How many times have you traveled? Where did you go?)\u201d he explained in the same interview.<\/p>\n<p>This came after admitting faults on DOTr\u2019s approval of the trips.<\/p>\n<p>Marcial Amaro III, the latest government official to join the President Rodrigo Duterte\u2019s growing list of sacked officials because of \u2018excessive trips,\u2019 defended his foreign trips as approved by the DOTr.<\/p>\n<p>(Read:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/01\/05\/axed-marina-head-defends-foreign-trips\/\">Axed MARINA head defends foreign trips<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Tugade then said that he is not denying his faults for approving the trips.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have to be faulted at certain points because of approval. I accept the fault,\u201d he admitted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut then, when you look at the totality of travel, <em>makikita mo<\/em> (you will see), more than 24, <em>marami naman \u2018yun<\/em> (that is too much),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He also explained that Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) enjoys autonomy, and DOTr\u2019s job is mostly to oversee their plans and activities.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Tugade said that government officials only have a maximum of 12 trips per year.<\/p>\n<p>The Transportation Secretary stressed that all Duterte wants is to remove extravagant trips.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn other words, what the President does not want is extravagance, <em>ngayon<\/em> (now) for us to do our government job, it requires physical presence<em>.<\/em> <em>Kung lagi hong nagbabyahe \u2018yan nasa\u2019n na \u2018yung<\/em> (Now if you are always on trips, where is the) physical presence?\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>He also noted that though it is not yet formal, Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief-of-Staff Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero has been named as MARINA\u2019s next chief.
