(Photo by Lauro Montellano Jr. \/ Malaca\u00f1ang Photo Bureau)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA &#8212; President Benigno Aquino III called on Filipinos to choose candidates who will fight for the citizen&#8217;s interests.<\/p>\n<p>In a speech during the Independence Day celebration held in Naga City, Camarines Sur, the president said that the \u00a0country does not need dancers and singers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #484848;\">\u201cHindi natin kailangan ng magaling bumigkas ng script, mahusay sumayaw, o kaya magaling kumanta. Pananagutan nating mag-iwan ng mas makatarungan at mas maunlad na Pilipinas kaysa ating dinatnan ,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(We do not need someone who is good at reading scripts, dancing or singing. It is our responsibility to ensure that the Philippines is more just and progressive than it was in the past.)<\/p>\n<p>Aquino also added that Filipinos\u00a0have the responsibilities to choose leaders wisely so that the sacrifices of the\u00a0ancestors who died fighting for independence will not be wasted.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #484848;\">\u201cBawat isa sa atin ay mayroong maiaambag upang hindi masayang ang isinakripisyo ng ating mga ninuno ,\u201d \u00a0Aquino said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(Everyone of us has something to share so that the sacrifices of our ancestors will not go to waste.)<\/p>\n<p>The president also cited his family&#8217;s experiences during the martial law period under former dictator, Ferdinand Marcos, saying that it taught him the importance of fighting against injustice.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #484848;\">\u201cNgayon nga pong nasa posisyon na ako para maisabuhay ang mga aral na ito, gagawin ko ang lahat ng aking makakaya upang mabigyan ng hustisya hindi lamang ang iilan, kundi ang buong sambayanan,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(Now that I am in the position to apply these lessons in real life, I will do all that I can to give justice not only to some but to the whole nation.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA &#8212; President Benigno Aquino III called on Filipinos to choose candidates who will fight for the citizen&#8217;s interests.
