{"id":145253,"date":"2018-01-10T04:07:53","date_gmt":"2018-01-10T09:07:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=145253"},"modified":"2018-01-10T04:07:53","modified_gmt":"2018-01-10T09:07:53","slug":"public-teachers-wage-increase-unlikely-to-happen-says-budget-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/01\/10\/public-teachers-wage-increase-unlikely-to-happen-says-budget-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"Public teacher\u2019s wage increase unlikely to happen, says budget chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The government will need to have an additional cost of P500 billion to fulfill the plan of doubling the salaries of public school teachers, an amount that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) is not ready to dole out.<\/p>\n<p>At the \u201cKapihan sa Manila Bay\u201d on Wednesday, Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno cited the total number of teachers in the Philippines and the projects that are more prioritized by the administration as factors in the impossibility of its materialization.<br \/>\n\u201cUnfortunately, that requires a huge amount because there are 600,000 teachers, and I would think that salaries alone of teachers would be about half-a-trillion pesos. Doubling the salaries of teachers would need half-a-trillion pesos,&#8221; Diokno said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that is not our priority at this time.
