He was 80.<\/p>\n<p>A news release from the talent agency Northern Exposure says Rhodes died at the Baillie House Hospice in Maple Ridge, B.C.<\/p>\n<p>The Winnipeg-born actor received numerous accolades, including a Gemini award for his leading role in the drama \u201cDa Vinci&#8217;s Inquest\u201d in 2002 and a Gemini Earle Grey Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Rhodes was also recognized by the B.C.\u00a0<strong><em>Entertainment<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Hall of Fame with a star on Granville Street&#8217;s Star Walk in Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p>Rhodes, who joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as an airman-mechanic before settling into his career as an actor, was also known in the U.S. for his role as the dim-witted escaped con Dutch in the ABC soap opera spoof \u201cSoap.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He studied at the Manitoba Theatre Centre and was a member of the first graduating class of the National Theatre School of Canada in 1963.<\/p>\n<p>He made his professional debut on stage at Stratford Theatre as Stanley Kowalski in \u201cStreetcar Named Desire\u201d before he became a contract player for Universal Pictures in the U.S., where he landed television roles on \u201cBonanza,\u201d \u201cThe Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,\u201d \u201cCheers,\u201d \u201cGolden Girls\u201d and \u201cThe Young and the Restless.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rhodes is survived by his wife, Sarah, his daughter and his son.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MAPLE RIDGE, B.C. \u2014 Actor Donnelly Rhodes, best-known in Canada for his roles in \u201cSidestreet\u201d and \u201cDa Vinci&#8217;s Inquest,\u201d died &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":109516,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2,106],"tags":[42456,42455],"class_list":["post-144824","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-entertainment","category-hollywood","tag-canadian-television-actor","tag-donnelly-rhodes","mauthors-the-canadian-press"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/144824","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=144824"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/144824\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/109516"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=144824"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=144824"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=144824"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
