{"id":143607,"date":"2018-01-04T01:01:18","date_gmt":"2018-01-04T06:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=143607"},"modified":"2018-01-04T01:01:18","modified_gmt":"2018-01-04T06:01:18","slug":"nujp-slams-facebook-for-taking-down-anti-marcos-posts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2018\/01\/04\/nujp-slams-facebook-for-taking-down-anti-marcos-posts\/","title":{"rendered":"NUJP slams Facebook for taking down anti-Marcos posts"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_82982\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82982\" style=\"width: 960px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Marcos-burial.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-82982\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Marcos-burial.jpg\" alt=\"FILE: The burial of Marcos proceeded last Nov. 18 (PNA photo courtesy of Imee Marcos' Facebook page)\" width=\"960\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Marcos-burial.jpg 960w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Marcos-burial-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Marcos-burial-768x474.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82982\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">FILE: The burial of Marcos proceeded last Nov. 18 (PNA photo courtesy of Imee Marcos&#8217; Facebook page)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA, Philippines \u2014 The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) on Wednesday denounced social media giant Facebook for taking down posts that criticize the alleged compromise deal between the Duterte administration and the family of late President Ferdinand Marcos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NUJP condemns Facebook&#8217;s baseless takedown of netizens\u2019 posts critical of the government and institutions, as it is a direct infringement on the users\u2019 right to freedom of expression,\u201d NUJP said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe call out Facebook for its arbitrary \u201ccommunity standards,\u201d which is often used as a basis for expurgating critical and thought-provoking commentaries,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>NUJP\u2019s statement came after Facebook took down on Tuesday the post of blogger-columnist Tonyo Cruz in reaction to the takedown of a viral post calling out the alleged compromise deal between the government and the Marcos family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTonyo Cruz, who writes a biweekly column for the Manila Bulletin, received past 8 p.m. a notice from Facebook that it has taken down his post entitled \u201cCommunity Standards ng mga Kawatan,\u201d it also said.<\/p>\n<p>The NUJP also urged Facebook to review its guidelines to ensure that it will not violate the people\u2019s right to freely express themselves.<\/p>\n<p>The post of Cruz denounced the takedown of the post of host and educator Gang Badoy, which contains photos of the alleged draft of the said agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The host\u2019s post was taken down by Facebook Tuesday morning for \u201cviolating community standards\u201d but was restored at past 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The social media giant apologized for \u201caccidentally removing\u201d the content.<\/p>\n<p>Hours later, however, Cruz\u2019s post was taken down as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFacebook has also prevented me from posting on its website and from accessing my Messenger account.
