BACOLOD CITY\u2014\u00a0<\/strong>As Mount Kanlaon remains in moderate level of unrest, the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) of Negros Occidental trained the management and staff of Mambukal Resort on volcanic eruption response.<\/p>\n

The Capitol-owned resort in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia is situated at the foot of the active volcano, and one of the entry points for Kanlaon trekkers.<\/p>\n

The PDMPD, headed by Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, with the Bureau of Fire Protection, Office of the Civil Defense, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, among others, conducted a simulation exercise and drill for resort personnel on Thursday.<\/p>\n

This is part of the preparedness plan formulated specifically for the resort, Caelian said.<\/p>\n

Mambukal Resort head Ellen Jalandoni thanked the agencies that provided the training and expressed hope that the volcano\u2019s alert status will not escalate.<\/p>\n

As of December 28, the Kanlaon Volcano Bulletin issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) stated that seismic monitoring network did not detect any volcanic earthquake during the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n

However, Alert Level 2 status still prevails over Kanlaon Volcano, indicating the volcano is undergoing a moderate level of unrest.<\/p>\n

From Alert Level 1, the Alert Level 2 status was raised over the volcano on November 15, after Phivolcs recorded a total of 279 volcanic earthquakes at the time.<\/p>\n

On December 9, Phivolcs monitored a low-energy phreatic eruption, which was an explosion-type earthquake that lasted for about 10 minutes.<\/p>\n

The event ejected dark ash and voluminous steam at three to four kilometers above the summit vent.<\/p>\n
