LOS ANGELES — Canadian actress Heather Menzies-Urich, who played one of the singing von Trapp children in the hit 1965 film, \u201cThe Sound of Music,\u201d has died. She was 68.<\/p>\n

Her son, actor Ryan Urich, told Variety that his mother died late Sunday in Frankford, Ont. She recently had been diagnosed with brain cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was an actress, a ballerina and loved living her life to the fullest,\u201d Urich said.<\/p>\n

Menzies-Urich played Louisa von Trapp, the third-oldest of the seven von Trapp children, in the film adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical that starred Julie Andrews and Canadian actor Christopher Plummer.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Sound of Music\u201d captured five Academy Awards, including best picture.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeather was part of ‘the family.’ There is really no other way to describe the members of the cast of the movie of ‘The Sound of Music,\u201d’ Ted Chapin, president and chief creative officer of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization, said in a statement.<\/p>\n

A Toronto native, Menzies-Urich’s other film credits include \u201cHawaii\u201d and \u201cPiranha.<\/p>\n

\u201d On television, she appeared as a fugitive in \u201cLogan’s Run\u201d and had guest spots on \u201cDragnet,\u201d \u201cBonanza,\u201d \u201cMarcus Welby, M.D.\u201d and other series.<\/p>\n

Variety reports that Menzies-Urich is survived by two other children, several grandchildren and a great grandchild.<\/p>\n

Her husband, actor Robert Urich, died in 2002.<\/p>\n
