{"id":141329,"date":"2017-12-22T08:00:07","date_gmt":"2017-12-22T13:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=141329"},"modified":"2017-12-22T08:00:07","modified_gmt":"2017-12-22T13:00:07","slug":"santiago-steps-down-as-ddb-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2017\/12\/22\/santiago-steps-down-as-ddb-chief\/","title":{"rendered":"Santiago steps down as DDB chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After his statement that the mega drug rehabilitation facility in Nueva Ecija is \u201cimpractical\u201d and \u201ca mistake,\u201d Dionisio Santiago leaves his post as chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) as supposedly ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte.<\/p>\n<p>Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea reportedly told the DDB chief to resign on orders of the president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was told to tell you to go,&#8221; Santiago quoted Medialdea telling him through a phone call.<\/p>\n<p>Despite Santiago\u2019s claims that the president was misinformed, the former told Medialdea that he respects Duterte\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>Santiago said he has served in the government for 40 years and he did not expect for such a way out.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in an interview, he said that his interview in ANC where he described the mega drug rehabilitation facility as impractical, a mistake and something that was born out of the president\u2019s excitement was misinterpreted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s nothing, it wasn\u2019t me who criticized it. Actually, I had it reviewed, I didn\u2019t say it is a mistake. It came from your, your peers\u2026 the friends of the media,\u201d Santiago said in Unang Balita.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cI don\u2019t know, maybe the question to me was intentional, are you saying that the President committed a mistake? I said he didn\u2019t go wrong there.
