Why impose a morality that is no longer working? So I am with you,\u201d he told the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community during their gathering in Davao on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Saying that this is the \u2018trend of the modern times\u2019 and it is what adds to the \u2018happiness\u2019 of the people, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte confirmed that he supports it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want same-sex marriage. The problem is we\u2019ll have to change the law. But we can change the law,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, when Duterte was still the mayor of Davao, he has stated his support for same-sex marriage in a guesting on Gandang Gabi Vice (GGV).<\/p>\n<p>GGV\u2019s host, Vice Ganda, who is a proud member of the LGBT community, asked the mayor-turned-President of his stand on one of the rainbow community\u2019s hottest topics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Same-sex marriage,] it\u2019s good\u2026 everyone deserves to be happy,\u201d he said then, continuing that, \u201c<em>Kahit sa mga <\/em>dormitory <em>noon, ayoko talaga \u2018yung mga bakla niloloko <\/em>(Even in the dormitories then, I did not like to see homosexuals being bullied). I was the first to give a statement <em>sa<\/em> (in) Davao when Ladlad [party list] was denied registration,\u201d Duterte further said.<\/p>\n<p>Vice Ganda also asked what he would do if his son were homosexual, with Duterte replying that he would accept him for who he is and \u201ceveryone should respect human dignity as all humans are created by God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, in March this year, Duterte retracted his words in a meeting with a Filipino community in Myanmar. He cited an issue of the Time magazine that talked about the dimming difference and distinction of \u2018he\u2019 from \u2018she.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>\u2019Yun ang kultura nila. Eh \u2018di kayo lang, hindi \u2018yan pwede sa amin. Katoliko kami at<\/em> (That is their culture. That cannot be applied to us. We are Catholics and) there is the Civil Code, which says that you can only marry a woman for me.
