{"id":13729,"date":"2014-06-04T20:11:27","date_gmt":"2014-06-04T12:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=13729"},"modified":"2014-06-04T20:11:27","modified_gmt":"2014-06-04T12:11:27","slug":"workers-set-to-begin-strike-at-bcs-cascade-aerospace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2014\/06\/04\/workers-set-to-begin-strike-at-bcs-cascade-aerospace\/","title":{"rendered":"Workers set to begin strike at BC&#8217;s Cascade Aerospace"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_13730\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13730\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/strike.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13730\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/strike.jpg\" alt=\"ShutterStock image\" width=\"1000\" height=\"665\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/strike.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/strike-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13730\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ShutterStock image<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>ABBOTSFORD, BC &#8212; Barring a last-minute tentative agreement, the 440 workers at Cascade Aerospace in Abbotsford, B.C., are set to begin a strike today at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Unifor says workers at the aerospace company are being asked for concessions that include rolling back benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Gavin McGarrigle, the union&#8217;s B.C. area director, says Unifor has &#8216;&#8221;no intention of accepting concessions from a company as profitable as Cascade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The union earlier claimed the company has been making plans to bring in replacement workers in the event of a strike.<\/p>\n<p>McGarrigle said in a statement late Tuesday he is concerned that other workers are &#8221;going to be rushed in&#8221; to perform work normally done by skilled engineers and technicians.<\/p>\n<p>The workers include aircraft maintenance engineers, interior technicians, painters, maintenance, planning clerks and sheet metal mechanics.<\/p>\n<p>Cascade Aerospace is owned by the Halifax-based IMP group.<\/p>\n<p>It is the main Department of National Defence contractor for repair and overhaul on the Hercules aircraft heavy transport fleet.
