MANILA —<\/strong>\u00a0President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday told newly-appointed officials of government not to be tempted by corruption and betray the government, saying that he is hoping that they would not start as a Jesus Christ but only to end up as a Judas.<\/p>\n

In his speech during the mass oath-taking of new Presidential appointees, Duterte recounted the \u201cfictional\u201d story on how Leonardo da Vinci completed one of his greatest masterpieces, The Last Supper.<\/p>\n

According to \u201clegend,\u201d Da Vinci spent seven years painting \u201cThe Last Supper\u201d in Milan, Italy.<\/p>\n

He interviewed hundreds of models to get just the right ones to use for each disciple, choosing the one to portray Christ first.<\/p>\n

Six years later, he looked for someone to be the model for Judas and found a convicted murderer in Rome who fit the part.<\/p>\n

When he finished the painting, the man revealed that he was the same person Leonardo had used years earlier to be the model for Christ but had degenerated because of his sin and crime.<\/p>\n

But in his recount, Duterte spiked the story with politics and humor.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is said that in Florence, he started to paint the Last Supper. The last dinner of Christ with his –\u00a0mga apostoles niya na puro may sungay naman pala,<\/em>\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n

He said that the Renaissance artist chose and paid models for each of the apostles, \u201cgaya \u2018yung si<\/em>\u00a0St. Peter,\u00a0kinuha niyang<\/em>\u00a0model\u00a0si<\/em>General (Hermogenes) Esperon\u00a0ganun, binayaran niya,<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Esperon is Duterte\u2019s National Security Adviser.
\nWhen the painting was about to be completed, there were only two faces left to paint, that of Jesus Christ and his betrayer Judas Iscariot.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was looking for a model of Christ, the far right, and itong si Hudas, the far left,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

It took two years to find the right face, which the President described as \u201cparang Kristo talaga ang mukha, clean face, may gupit — talagang maganda.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAng ika-13th, si Hudas. Hinanap niya sa\u2026 sa lahat. Naghanap siya ng mukha talagang evil, pareho kay<\/em>\u00a0(Senator Antonio) Trillanes.\u00a0Naghanap siya ng mukha ni<\/em>\u00a0Trillanes.\u00a0Wala pa man<\/em>\u00a0PMA (Philippine Military Academy)\u00a0noon<\/em>. Though\u00a0hindi niya mahanap<\/em>,\u201d Duterte said to laughter from the audience.<\/p>\n

Trillanes is a staunch critic of the President.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, Da Vinci found a scavenger who fits the right appearance that he wanted for Judas.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo he talked to him and said, \u2018Do not be insulted, but you know, I\u2019m trying to complete my painting, the only person missing there, the face is Judas.\u2019 Sabi niya, \u2018You are not Judas.\u2019 Sabihin ko kay Trillanes ganun, \u2018You are not the Judas,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut sabi ni Da Vinci, \u2018You are a model for a face of evil.\u2019 Sabihin ko na rin \u2026 \u2018You are a model\u2026 a face of evil,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n

So the painting was finished and like in the legend, the man started crying.<\/p>\n

When the great painter asked why the man said that he was the one and the same person whom Da Vinci painted as Jesus Christ and became the face of evil because \u201cnagkalat ako sa buhay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Drawing parallelism from the said story, President Duterte told the newly-appointed government officials that all those joining government start with the noblest of intention.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I hope I will not have to ask you to pose a picture which I will be drawing shortly before I leave the presidency,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hate to see you being a Jesus Christ, only to discover in the end that you are the Judas that I have been also looking for,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
