(C-Joy), a joint venture between listed fast food giant Jollibee Foods Corp. (JFC), and Cargill Philippines Inc., on Tuesday inaugurated its new poultry processing plant in Santo Tomas, Batangas to meet rising consumer demand for chicken in the country.<\/p>\n<p>C-Joy said the country\u2019s largest plant has a processing capacity of 45 million chickens per year to meet increased demand of JFC brands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCargill and Jollibee came together to start this plant because of our common commitment to the highest standards in product quality and food safety,\u201d said C-Joy President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Fullbright.<\/p>\n<p>Cargill and JFC have a 70% and a 30% stake, respectively in C-Joy.<\/p>\n<p>C-Joy is partnering with local poultry farmers in Batangas and nearby provinces to supply chickens to the new facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis partnership will meaningfully benefit our customers, our operations as well as the overall Philippine food industry. We will continue to maintain our strong relationship with key chicken suppliers in the country and look forward to sustained long-term supply arrangements with them as our businesses grow together,\u201d JFC Chief Executive Officer Ernesto Tanmantiong told the local bourse.<\/p>\n<p>United States Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim considered the continued investments from Cargill in the Philippines an indication of the strong economic relationship between the US and the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>Philippines was the first country Cargill established in Asia back in 1948.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud that U.S. companies like Cargill make investments that strengthen the economic partnership between our two countries and contribute to the economic development of the Philippines by providing livelihood opportunities, particularly in rural areas,\u201d said Ambassador Kim.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u2014 Cargill Joy Poultry Meats Production, Inc.
