The Philippine National Police (PNP) is set to launch a human rights mobile application on Monday, ahead of the observance of the international Human Rights Day on December 10.<\/p>\n

Chief Superintendent Dennis Siervo, head of the PNP Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO), said that the launching of \u201cKnow Your Rights\u201d application kicks off the PNP\u2019s commemoration of the \u201cNational Human Rights Consciousness Week\u201d with the theme of \u201cStand Up for Someone\u2019s Right Today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Siervo said that the app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store by all Android mobile device users.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough the \u2018Know Your Rights\u2019 mobile application, all Human Rights Advisories and Policies crafted by the PNP, including the contents of the New Miranda Warning Pocket Card with Anti-Torture Reminders, can be downloaded\/stored in all android smart phones,\u201d \u00a0Siervo explained in a statement.<\/p>\n

He added that once the application is downloaded and installed in a mobile device, the contents of it can be accessed anytime, even without internet connection, by police personnel, especially by field officers engaged in anti-drug operations, criminality, and corruption.<\/p>\n

Apart from this, the app also provides PNP officers the right information and materials which guide individuals or citizens placed under police custody of their rights under the law<\/p>\n

Moreover, the public can also have an easy access to the human rights advisories, information on their fundamental rights, and police operational procedures and rules of engagement.<\/p>\n

Siervo stressed that the mobile application affirms PNP\u2019s commitment to protect human rights.<\/p>\n

December 4 to 10 is the country\u2019s National Human Rights Consciousness Week, according to Republic Act No. 9201 or the \u201cNational Human Rights Consciousness Week Act of 2002.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
