MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0—\u00a0President Rodrigo Duterte is urging Filipinos to instill an era of civic consciousness and nationalism as the country commemorates the 154th birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio, the Father of the Philippine Revolution.<\/span><\/p>\n

In his Bonifacio Day message, the President said that everyone should be actively involved in nation building and called on Filipinos to fight to “free ourselves from the grasp of corruption, criminality, and illegal drugs<\/span>; to liberate our people from the clutches of terror and violence; and to preserve our ideals, values, and way of life.\u201d<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was Andres Bonifacio who ignited the fires of revolt that led to the foundation of our nation and brought freedom to our people. As the heirs of his revolution, it is our solemn obligation to bring life to his aspirations and usher in an era of civic consciousness and nationalism,\u201d Duterte said.<\/p>\n
