Richard Whitcombe \/ Shutterstock\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/yolanda-haiyan-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/yolanda-haiyan-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/yolanda-haiyan.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11823\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The devastation left by super typhoon &#8216;Haiyan.&#8217; Richard Whitcombe \/ Shutterstock<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>MANILA &#8212; A three-year Canadian government program, aimed at boosting local economic activity, is set to help the recovery of tourist destinations damaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda.<\/p>\n<p>The local tourism support program will be implemented this year in ten target areas including those that were affected by Yolanda such as Palawan, Northern Panay, Iloilo, \u00a0and Cebu.<\/p>\n<p>The project is part of the third phase of Canada\u2019s Local Governance Support Program for Local Economic Development\u2019s (LGSP-LED) $18-million, eight-year bilateral project in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian Ambassador to Manila Neil Reeder said in a statement published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer that the 10 initiatives are expected to serve as models for local government units to \u201cshowcase how a stronger business climate and investments in tourism-related infrastructure are key factors in attracting other investments and creating jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program includes technical advice and training on how to make the local business environment more competitive, attractive to investments and conducive to jobs creation.<\/p>\n<p>Citing a total of P6 billion in investments which created 2,200 new jobs over two years, Reeder said that the first batches of LGSP-LED\u2019s local government beneficiaries yielded clear gains.<\/p>\n<p>The Yolanda-devastated areas listed among the 10 recipient provinces include: Palawan, where a tourism development program will be implemented in the\u00a0Coron-Busuanga-Culion\u00a0area; Northern Panay, including\u00a0Aklan\u00a0and Antique, where the project will support grassroots ecotourism development; the towns of\u00a0Banate,\u00a0Barotac\u00a0Viejo,\u00a0Ajuy, Concepcion, Estancia and\u00a0Carles\u00a0in Iloilo, where the project will support micro- and small-to-medium enterprises; and Cebu, where an ecotourism recovery program will be implemented in the northern towns of\u00a0Daanbantayan,\u00a0Bantayan, Santa Fe, Medellin and\u00a0Bogo\u00a0City.<\/p>\n<p>Six other recipient areas include: Batangas, the\u00a0Albay-Sorsogon\u00a0tourism link, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental,\u00a0Siquijor\u00a0and Davao del Norte.<\/p>\n<p><em>With reports from Tarra Quismundo<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA &#8212; A three-year Canadian government program, aimed at boosting local economic activity, is set to help the recovery of &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":44,"featured_media":11823,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[18,95],"tags":[398,1479,4525],"class_list":["post-13345","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news-ca","category-news-ph","tag-canada","tag-ph","tag-yolanda-areas","mauthors-lei-fontamillas","mauthors-philippine-canadian-inquirer"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/13345","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/44"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=13345"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/13345\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/11823"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=13345"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=13345"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=13345"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
