MANILA<\/strong> \u2014 President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Tuesday, November 21, issued a stern warning to mining companies financially supporting communists, telling them that they will be closed down.<\/p>\n

In his speech during a tribute to the heroes of the Marawi crisis in Taguig City, the Chief Executive discussed that all mining companies are paying taxes to the New People\u2019s Army (NPA).<\/p>\n

\u201cAt hindi magta-thrive \u2018yang mining nila kung hindi nagbibigay ng pera \u2018yan.<\/em>\u00a0So we have to decide once and for all,\u201d the President said. \u201cIf I go against the NPAs, the communists, well, everybody has to reconfigure your relationship with the NPAs,\u201d the President added.<\/p>\n

President Duterte warned that he would close down the mining companies if they continue to financially support NPA.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the interest of the security of that state, all those funding the NPAs dito, we will trace and everything,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In a media interview after the 65th General Assembly of the League of Cities of the Philippines in Taguig City, the President said it is almost public knowledge that mining companies are contributing to the taxation of the NPAs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThereby giving them also strength, money to buy arms, and bullets and all in their desire to topple down the Republic of the Philippines,\u201d President Duterte said, adding that he will have to talk to the companies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to talk. I have to talk to them. For those who cannot resist. Then you better close up,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to the Chief Executive, he could always invoke the higher interest of the dangerous tendency rule of \u201ccapitulating to the pressure of the communists.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Duterte has decided to terminate the talks with the NPAs and said that he wants to categorize them as a terrorist group.<\/p>\n

\u201cAyaw ko na makipag-usap<\/em>\u00a0especially the last,\u00a0\u2018yung inambush<\/em>\u00a0(ambush)\u00a0nila \u2018yung pulis pati \u2018yung bata,<\/em>\u00a0the four month old while being\u00a0sa kamay ng nanay tinamaan<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cKung ganun kayo, tapos mag-giyera tayo, pati \u2018yung mga<\/em>\u00a0civilian\u00a0idadamay natin. \u2018Di \u2018wag na tayong mag-usap,<\/em>\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

When asked regarding the recommendation of the Mining Industry Coordinating Council (MICC) to lift the ban on open-pit mining, the President said he does not like this because it is destroying the soil and the environment and there are no corrective measures immediately available.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Di na bale sana na may makita ako nung<\/em>\u00a0scraped area, when I go back there to visit the place and I could see a lot of trees growing and the environment corrected of its destruction,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPilipino kasi ako. Nasasaktan ako sa bayan ko pag ginaganun mo.<\/em>\u00a0I mean, it is profit for you and for the NPAs, too,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The President also reiterated that he is \u201creally really against corruption.” \u201cHindi ako pwede diyang makipagdeal-deal ng mga sa baba because I think that it\u2019s about time that we really give the Filipino a respite of corruption in the Philippines,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As it is impossible to erase corruption overnight, he then urged the local government officials to minimize corruption. \u201cBut if you can just minimize it\u00a0lalo na dito sa baba ninyo, mabuti \u2018yan. But pati dito sa<\/em>\u00a0national,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPero<\/em>\u00a0may I just ask you, please, I plead that\u00a0sabay-sabay na tayo dito na itong sa<\/em>\u00a0corruption,\u00a0medyo i-minimize natin,<\/em>\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President Duterte gave an assurance that he has nothing to do with the impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlam mo, sinabi sa akin merong narinig na si Sereno,<\/em>\u00a0\u2018Duterte is out to\u2026\u2019\u00a0Ha, ako raw?<\/em>\u00a0She can ask anybody, I guarantee you. I\u2019ll make a guarantee,\u00a0magtanong siya diyan kung may nilapitan ako na sinasabi ko,<\/em>\u00a0\u2018Impeach\u00a0niyo si<\/em>\u00a0Sereno,\u2019” he said in the same media interview.<\/p>\n
