MANILA<\/strong> \u2014 The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has relieved two officials pending investigation of their alleged involvement in illegal recruitment activities.<\/p>\n

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) officer-in-charge Undersecretary Dominador Say said the action taken against the officials, who were not identified, is part of a major revamp among the agency\u2019s officials and personnel allegedly involved in illegal activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cPending the final determination as based on investigation result,\u00a0hindi pa natin masasabi kung saan sila<\/em>\u00a0involved (we still cannot say where they are involved), but what we can say at the moment is\u00a0\u2018yung mga taong humahawak ng<\/em>\u00a0sensitive positions (those who are holding sensitive positions),\u00a0\u2018yung mga<\/em>\u00a0easy prey to temptations\u00a0\u2018yun ang aalisin<\/em>\u00a0(those who are easy prey to temptations will be removed) plus other reports we have been receiving\u00a0na<\/em>\u00a0consistent\u00a0naman hindi lang<\/em>\u00a0once o twice\u00a0na nasa\u00a0natatanggap<\/em>\u00a0naming report ,(those who are consistently being reported to us)\u201d he said in an press briefing on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Say added that also being investigated are presidential appointees in the agency.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Yung mga taong<\/em>\u00a0involved\u00a0sa<\/em>\u00a0reports\u00a0na \u2018yun ang<\/em>\u00a0feedback\u00a0sila ang mauunang alisin sa pwesto\u00a0(Those included in the reports or feedback, they will be relieved from the posts,)<\/em>, again this is pending investigation,\u00a0aalisin muna para hindi lang sila<\/em>\u00a0ma-involved further, (they will be relieved for the meantime so they won’t be involved further)\u00a0alisin lang muna sa pwesto nila at ililipat para pagkatapos (ng)<\/em>\u00a0final investigation (They will be relived and transferred so that after the final investigation), if circumstances warrant we will let the Secretary (Silvestre Bello III) decide\u00a0kung<\/em>\u00a0ire-recommend for their termination\u00a0kasi karamihan sa mga ito (ay)<\/em>\u00a0presidential appointees (if he will recommend their termination because many of them are presidential appointees),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be accurate all are under investigation regardless kung career or presidential appointee , everybody, it\u2019s a total revamp, up and down, side to side revamp,\u201d Say added.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, POEA officer-in-charge Bernard Olalia said that also included in the revamp are 40 guards and 40 janitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cMalungkot man aminin pero may mga<\/em>\u00a0report\u00a0kasi tayo na nagagamit ang mga<\/em>\u00a0security guards and janitors\u00a0sa mga<\/em>\u00a0illegal activities, either\u00a0ginagawa silang<\/em>\u00a0bagman o runner,\u00a0eto ang napakasakit kasi \u2018yung mga<\/em>\u00a0security guards\u00a0na dapat merong trabaho e nagagamit ng mga tiwaling opisyal kaya bingyan din natin ng pagkakataon na imbestigahan din ito, kung dapat palitan papalitan po natin<\/em>, (Sad as it seems, we have reports indicating that our security guards and janitors are also involved in illegal activities. Either they are being used as bagman or runner. Our security guards who have their own duties are being used by corrupt officials so we have to subject them to investigation. If they need to be replaced, we will replace them.)\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Say added that at least four licensed recruitment agencies, which are also supposedly involved in the illegal activities, are likewise being investigated.<\/p>\n

\u201cPina-imbentaryo na natin \u2018yung mga<\/em>\u00a0cases\u00a0na<\/em>\u00a0pending\u00a0sa<\/em>\u00a0POEA (We have conducted and inventory of the pending cases at the POEA) regarding violations involving recruitment agencies,\u00a0hinihiwalay natin<\/em>\u00a0cases involving illegal recruitment (we have separated the cases involving illegal recruitment),\u00a0siguro may<\/em>\u00a0four cases\u00a0pa na<\/em>\u00a0involved\u00a0d\u2019yan\u00a0<\/em>(probably there are four cases involved)\u00a0and we will be releasing later on decisions involving suspension and\/or cancellation of licenses of these recruitment agencies involved in illegal recruitment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the DOLE ordered the temporary suspension of the processing of Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) at the POEA in connection with the supposed illegal recruitment activities.<\/p>\n

To note, the OEC processing has been suspended from November 13 to December 1.<\/p>\n

The POEA estimates that some 75,000 new and returning OFWs would be affected by the temporary suspension.\u00a0(PNA)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
