JOHN&#8217;S, NL &#8212; A longtime Newfoundland and Labrador cabinet minister has resigned from politics.<\/p>\n<p>Environment and Conservation Minister Joan Shea announced her resignation today surrounded by members of the Progressive Conservative caucus.<\/p>\n<p>Shea, who represents the western Newfoundland riding of St. George&#8217;s-Stephenville East, says she made the decision over the past few days and that it felt right for her to quit public life at this time.<\/p>\n<p>She was first elected in October 2003 and has held various cabinet positions including as minister of education, human resources and employment, and child, youth and family services.<\/p>\n<p>Premier Tom Marshall thanked Shea for her work.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Minister Terry French and Finance Minister Charlene Johnson will split Shea&#8217;s duties in cabinet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ST.
