(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/OfficialLRTA\/photos\/a.421747717884520.94199.421747624551196\/1279857215406895\/?type=1&amp;amp;theater\">Photo<\/a>:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/OfficialLRTA\/\"> Light Rail Transit Authority &#8211; LRT2\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA\u2014<\/strong>\u00a0One hundred twenty new rolling stocks for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) through the Official Development Assistance (ODA) are seen to help decongest Metro Manila and enhance the business climate in the country, a Japanese official said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough the project, JICA aims to support the Philippines in accommodating growing demand for quality mass transport and job opportunities,\u201d said Susumu Ito, chief representative of JICA Philippines office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe present administration\u2019s thrust to usher in a \u2018golden age of infrastructure\u2019 could also mean a \u2018golden age for investments\u2019 in the Philippines,'&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>With this, Ito echoed JICA&#8217;s hopes to continue contributing to the Philippine economic growth &#8220;in a sustainable way through infrastructure development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Transportation has awarded the contract to supply said new rolling stocks to Mitsubishi Corporation, the latter is set to supply 120 cars, equivalent to 30 train sets, to LRT Line 1 beginning 2020 until 2022.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Japanese agency, the said project is part of its JPY43,252 million ODA loan for \u2018Capacity Enhancement of Mass Transit Systems in Metro Manila Project\u2019 that aims to support quality transport infrastructure in the Philippines to help sustain the country\u2019s robust economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>The LRT Line 1 new rolling stocks will use Japanese technology and products while helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<p>Once completed, JICA said the new rolling stocks of LRT Line 1 can accommodate 1,388 passengers per train and more than double the number of running trains to 222.<\/p>\n<p>JICA has supported quality transport infrastructure in the Philippines since the 1970s with 45 percent of its ODA loan portfolio channeled to supporting infrastructure even in the remotest areas.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippines\u2019 investments in transportation infrastructure are now in the works, with the approval recently of the Philippines\u2019 first subway project to be assisted by JICA by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board.<\/p>\n<p>JICA mentioned that Metro Manila\u2019s urban rail systems have been built since the mid-1980s, namely the LRT Line 1, MRT Line 3, and LRT Line 2 and transport demand has increased since.<\/p>\n<p>It noted that shifting from road-based transport to rail-based mass transit could help ease the worsening traffic situation in Metro Manila due to urbanization and population growth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MANILA\u2014\u00a0One hundred twenty new rolling stocks for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency &hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":33,"featured_media":97259,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[95],"tags":[34128,34130,34129],"class_list":["post-132657","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news-ph","tag-30-addl-lrt-1-train-sets-seen-to-decongest-manila-traffic","tag-japan-international-cooperation-agency-jica","tag-light-rail-transit-lrt-line-1","mauthors-joyce-ann-l-rocamora","mauthors-philippine-news-agency"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/132657","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/33"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=132657"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/132657\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/97259"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=132657"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=132657"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=132657"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
