Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald \u201cBato\u201d dela Rosa assured the police\u2019s commitment to continuing the administration campaign in eradicating illegal drugs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are ready. We are always ready,\u201d this was dela Rosa\u2019s response when the media asked the PNP\u2019s readiness to take the lead the drug war again, on Sunday.<\/p>\n

However, the PNP Chief disclosed that they should have finished some preparations before leading the campaign.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe admit that our ranks were not totally not cleansed before we went on the war on drugs. We should have cleansed our ranks first,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte warned that if the country\u2019s drug problem worsens, the \u2018police have to enter the picture\u2019 once more.<\/p>\n

Earlier in October, when the President declared the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) as the sole agency to lead the war on drugs, dela Rosa has mentioned the same scenario.<\/p>\n

\u201cPakiramdam ko<\/em> when things get worse and talagang hindi kakayanin [ng <\/em>PDEA],<\/em> so kailangan sabihin ko sa kanya \u2018Siguro<\/em> Sir, pabalikin mo na kami, kawawa naman \u2018yung pamilya natin\u2019 <\/em>(I think when things get worse and when PDEA cannot handle it anymore, I think I have to tell him \u2018Sir, maybe you should let us come back. Spare our families,\u2019\u201d he said back then.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Senate Minority Leader Senator Franklin Drilon disagreed but clarified that PNP\u2019s return is within the budget.<\/p>\n

\u201cSana huwag nang ibalik sa<\/em> PNP [ang pag<\/em>-head ng <\/em>drug war]. Ang batas ay maliwanag naman na ang pagsugpo sa droga ay nasa<\/em> PDEA (I hope PNP does not return in heading the drug war. The law is clear that the PDEA is responsible in eradicating illegal drugs),\u201d he told DZBB.<\/p>\n

In the same interview, he added, \u201cNgayon kung sumali na naman ang <\/em>PNP, mayroon namang pagkukunan ng pondo kung kinakailangan <\/em>(But then there is still enough budget if PNP returns).\u201d<\/p>\n

For Drilon, he said that he was not in favor of PNP’s return as drug war head because of the 6000-7000 killings tagging the police in their drug operations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
