Dionisio Santiago, as DDB chair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Alam ko na yung papalit sa akin, yung kaibigan ko naman.<\/em>\u00a0(I know now who will replace me, he is my friend.) He was designated immediately as OIC. Si Gen. Pedregosa,\u201d Santiago said during a radio interview Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Pedregosa, a retired police general, served as DDB executive director from Jan. 28, 2013 to Aug. 30, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Santiago tendered his irrevocable resignation on Tuesday after Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea reportedly called him to say that President Rodrigo Duterte wanted him to resign.<\/p>\n<p>His resignation came a few days after he publicly said the construction of a 10,000-bed drug rehabilitation center in Nueva Ecija province was \u201cimpractical\u201d, and after seeking presidential approval for a plan to combat narcotics through smaller community-based rehabilitation programs anchored on a family support system.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the development, however, Santiago said his respect for President Duterte and his support for the administration\u2019s war against illegal drugs remain intact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe respect is still there. The support will always be there.\u00a0<em>Sa akin, hindi naman kami nag-away<\/em>\u00a0(For me, we did not quarrel),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He, however, refused to comment on why he was asked to resign, saying that it was better to ask Malaca\u00f1ang.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kung may nangyari man\u2026 kaya ang sagot ko pag tinatanong nyo ako dito,<\/em>\u00a0(Whatever happened\u2026 and that is why I tell you whenever you ask me,) better ask them. Because if there is a deeper problem, deeper reason, they will know best.\u00a0<em>Hindi ako. Hindi ako pwedeng mag<\/em>-explain,<em>\u00a0baka mali ang<\/em>\u00a0explanation ko (Not me. I can&#8217;t explain. My explanation might be wrong),\u201d Santiago said.<\/p>\n<p>In succeeding interviews following his resignation, the former AFP chief repeatedly answered, \u201cMalaca\u00f1ang is always right,\u201d and \u201cThe boss is always right,\u201d when asked to comment on why he was asked to resign.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, he said he has no qualms about leaving the DDB since the body is already pointed in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Ang mga<\/em>\u00a0programs\u00a0<em>naman<\/em>\u00a0in place.\u00a0<em>&#8216;Yung gusto nyong ituloy, ituloy nyo. Binilin ko naman, sabi ko i<\/em>-institutionalize\u00a0<em>nyo lahat para hindi na mahirapan yung papalit<\/em>, (The programs are in place. Pursue what you want to pursue.
