(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo.php?fbid=10156059023892786&amp;set=picfp.647872785.10155079890292786&amp;type=3&amp;theater\">Photo: Grifton Medina\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0&#8212; The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will deploy some 30 additional personnel in five border crossing stations in a bid to strengthen security in the country\u2019s southern border.<\/p>\n<p>Acting BI spokesperson Grifton Medina said more immigration officers (IOs) would be deployed to five areas bordering Malaysia and Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe BI has identified five border crossing stations, Batuganding, Balut island, south of Sarangani and Tibanban, Davao Oriental. These are in the southeastern part of the Philippines, bordering Indonesia,\u201d he said in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the Southwestern part bordering Malaysia are: Bongao, Tawi Tawi; Balabac, Palawan and Taganak at the southern tip of Palawan. Taganak is close to Sandakan, Malaysia than the Philippines,\u201d Medina added.<\/p>\n<p>The BI official said that the personnel would be local hires.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe aim to strengthen the southern border by recruiting locally hired immigration officers,\u00a0<em>taga doon<\/em>. They will be trained. Thirty IOs to be trained. Six (IOs) per station,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would have training for them especially on border crossing.\u00a0<em>Ang<\/em>\u00a0training\u00a0<em>namin ngayon<\/em>\u00a0as (compared) to regular IO training is\u00a0<em>iba<\/em>\u00a0(Our training now as compared to the regular IO is different). Arrival formalities\/departure formalities,\u201d Medina added.<\/p>\n<p>The deployment of new IOs would start next month or January 2018.<\/p>\n<p>He said that for this job, the training would be different.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kapag<\/em>\u00a0border crossing, it is different. (It is different when you speak of border crossing.)\u00a0<em>Hindi ka lang mag-tatak\u00a0<\/em>(You will not just stamp.), you would have to identify persons of interests or would be human traffickers, victim of human traffickers or even terrorists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Mag-<\/em>assign ang BI who would be familiar with the place (The BI will assign somebody who would be familiar with the place.), who would be very useful from there.
