Bernie Sanders has a simple message for New York City voters who don&#8217;t like President Donald Trump: Vote for Mayor Bill de Blasio (dih BLAH&#8217;-zee-oh).<\/p>\n<p>The Vermont senator stoked liberal passions nationwide as a Democratic candidate in last year&#8217;s presidential contest and stepped into New York politics for a day on Monday. He cast the Democratic first-term mayor as the antidote to what he calls the \u201cun-American\u201d leadership of the Republican president.<\/p>\n<p>Sanders says Trump is trying to divide people based on the colour of their skin or their religion \u201cin an extremely un-American, ugly and almost unprecedented way.\u201d He says de Blasio is leading New York in a way to bring people together.<\/p>\n<p>Sanders&#8217; appearance comes as de Blasio works to energize voters eight days before the election.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has called Sanders \u201ccrazy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW YORK &#8212; U.S. Sen.
