Eduardo A\u00f1o said. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/armedforcesofthephilippines\/photos\/a.248199283765.140707.155758863765\/10154772307998766\/?type=3&amp;amp;theater\">(Photo:<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/armedforcesofthephilippines\/photos\/a.248199283765.140707.155758863765\/10154772307998766\/?type=3&amp;amp;theater\">Armed Forces of the Philippines\/ Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Just after the conclusion of the 154-day Marawi siege, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will now bid goodbye to its Chief of Staff General Eduardo A\u00f1o as he retires on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>As A\u00f1o will celebrate his 56<sup>th<\/sup> birthday on October 26, the outgoing Chief of Staff is now set to end his 38 years of military service.<\/p>\n<p>However, AFP Spokesperson Major General Restituto Padilla said that no one is yet to take the position.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Sa<\/em> turn-over <em>wala pang<\/em> final word <em>kung sino. Wala pang lumalabas<\/em> (There is still no final word for the turn-over. There is no news yet),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the outgoing Chief of Staff has mentioned that he hopes to end the battle for Marawi before his retirement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Matatapos \u2018yan bago ako mag<\/em>-retire. <em>Nasa <\/em>final phase <em>na tayo,<\/em> finishing touches <em>kaya nga medyo matindi \u2018yung labanan dun<\/em> (This will be done before I retire. We are already in the final phase, just the finishing touches this is why the battle there is heavy),\u201d he told reporters before.<\/p>\n<p>With the battle for the war-torn city ending in five months, A\u00f1o got his wish three days before his mandatory retirement.<\/p>\n<p>On August, President Rodrigo Duterte opened that after A\u00f1o\u2019s retirement, he still needs his services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA\u00f1o would be under me. I would make him a senior aide of the Office of the President or whatever,\u201d Duterte told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>He further said that he could also appoint the outgoing Chief of Staff as undersecretary if that is \u2018legally feasible.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The President has also shown an interest on appointing A\u00f1o as the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary.
