Queen of All Media Kris Aquino admitted that\u00a0supposed sexual harassment happens in Philippine showbiz. However, the 46-year-old TV host and movie actress said she never experienced it.<\/p>\n

\u201cHindi ko na<\/em>-experience [I’ve never experienced it],\u201d Kris answered when asked to comment on the issue of sexual harassment in local showbiz during an exclusive roundtable interview with selected\u00a0reporters at her new home in Quezon City last Friday.<\/p>\n

Sexual harassment has been a talk-of-the-town today after the controversial revelation of Hollywood stars of their traumatic encounters with Miramax executive Harvey Weinstein.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this country, I feel there is more problem among men than girls,\u201d Kris stressed.<\/p>\n

Kris also believes that harassment of Filipina actresses is rare compared to their Hollywood counterparts because most women in the Philippines are empowered.<\/p>\n

Kris added that it also helps that the TV and movie industry is \u201cmatriarchal,\u201d saying top-caliber directors in the country are mostly either gays or women.<\/p>\n

Kris also said while she cannot speak on behalf of all the Filipina actresses, she said sexual harassment among girls was erased by the culture of protectiveness.<\/p>\n

She added it is difficult for producers to make sexual advances because some of the country\u2019s biggest female stars have stage moms behind them.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut for most of the other girls\u2014especially those I\u2019ve gotten close to, even those who went through the talent searches and all\u2014walang mga ganyang<\/em> experience kasi may mga nanay na nakabantay<\/em>\u00a0[there are no experiences like that because there are mothers behind them],\u201d Kris said.<\/p>\n

\u201cEspecially \u2018yung mga katulad nina <\/em>[the likes of] Sarah Geronimo, Kim Chiu, \u2018yung mga<\/em> [the] young superstars, \u2018di pagdadaanan \u2018yan<\/em> [they will never experience it],\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very different culture and we also have Catholic culture,\u201d Kris said.<\/p>\n

The actress also said the benchmark of an artist\u2019s success is by the numbers of advertisements, saying it pushes actresses to take care of their wholesome image.<\/p>\n

Kris further expounded that because they are\u00a0paying attention\u00a0of their wholesome image, Filipinas in showbiz\u00a0typically ensure they stay wholesome even\u00a0behind cameras.<\/p>\n

She added that the Philippine showbiz is a fairly safe industry for women like her who want to\u00a0continue pursuing their acting\u00a0career.<\/p>\n

Kris highlighted that according to her team\u2019s research, more women stay in the local showbiz industry, with an average of 20 years, than men do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
