President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Friday gave Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) six months to prove that they are capable of leading the operations battling the country\u2019s illegal drug problem.<\/p>\n

\u201cHuwag \u2013 lahat walang makialam<\/em>, PDEA lang<\/em>. O sige tingnan natin,<\/em> six months from now (Nobody should interfere. Only PDEA. Now, let us see six months from now),\u201d the Chief Executive said during his visit in Cagayan de Oro.<\/p>\n

\u201cPinatabi ko muna lahat<\/em> (I asked everyone else to step aside). And whether it will get worse or better, I simply do not have the answer,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

In the middle of his speech, the President once again reiterated that the country\u2019s drug problem is the root of most heinous crimes like rape and murder. He said that when he took his oath of office, he vowed to protect the people, preserve the country, and the Republic. \u201cI will go against all criminals without fear or favor and enforce it equally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

But then his proposed solution to the illegal drug trade seemed to blacken the image of the police.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat was the \u2013 what precipitated it?\u00a0 \u2018Di ba<\/em> drugs? Kaya, \u2018yan sabi\u2026 Ngayon, eh pinaghahampas nila itong pulis. O sabi ko, \u2018Sige. Gusto ninyo?<\/em> PDEA (Drugs right? Then they are blaming the police. Then I said \u2018Okay, this is what you want? PDEA),\u201d Duterte narrated.<\/p>\n

However, the President had a message for his western critics.<\/p>\n

\u201cNgayon, pagka lumabo na naman ito, sabihan ko itong mga unggoy na \u2018to, \u2018Bumalik kayo dito, solbahin ninyo ang problema namin. Kayo \u2018yung madaldal, pagka hindi ninyo nasolba d\u2019yan, tutuliin ko kayo uli<\/em> (Now, if the situations gets worse, I\u2019ll say to these monkeys, \u2018Come back here, and solve our problem. Since you are all talkative, if you cannot solve it, I will circumcise all of you again),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On October 10, Duterte signed a memorandum tagging PDEA as the \u2018sole agency\u2019 to handle the campaign on drugs, directing other agencies to not be involved. However, he has reminded the Philippine National Police (PNP) to maintain its visibility for the operations.<\/p>\n

This was followed by PNP Chief Director General Ronald \u201cBato\u201d dela Rosa stopping all Oplan Tokhang and Oplan Double Barrel operations nationwide, two days later.<\/p>\n

According to Duterte\u2019s speech on October 12, the continuous criticism on his campaign is what prompted him to make the decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cKasi ginawa ko na talaga lahat ng magagawa ko, ito na<\/em> (You see, I already did everything I can. So, here). And some of the noted writers say, \u2018Act now.\u2019 Ito na po<\/em> (It is here),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
