(PNA photo)\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/DOTlogo.jpg 600w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/DOTlogo-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/DOTlogo-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-108108\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Complaints against non-DOT accredited establishments are referred to the local government unit that issued the permit to operate.<a href=\"http:\/\/media.pna.gov.ph\/source\/DOTlogo.jpg\"> (PNA photo)<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>ILOILO CITY \u2014\u00a0<\/strong>The Department of Tourism (DOT) here on Friday reiterated its warning for the public to transact only with DOT-accredited establishments in Western Visayas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis office reminds the public to only deal with establishments bearing DOT accreditation ID, stickers and certificate,\u201d said lawyer Helen Catalbas, DOT regional director in Western Visayas.<\/p>\n<p>She said that her office has been receiving reports of \u201ctourism entities participating in activities including solicitation of any sort\u201d using the name of DOT.<\/p>\n<p>In earlier interview, she said DOT has gone massive in its information campaign to protect consumers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is much less expensive when we preempt complaints rather than answer consumer complaints,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>She added that they have made full use of the mass media, social media, word of mouth, and strengthened relationship with their accredited agencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen there is signage, plaque, sticker of the tourism office \u2014 that is a promise of quality service, promise of protection for the consumers. When we issue accreditation to those qualified, we also have the power to revoke that seal of assurance of consumer protection,\u201d Catalbas said.<\/p>\n<p>Complaints against non-DOT accredited establishments are referred to the local government unit that issued the permit to operate.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, due process is given regarding any complaint against DOT-accredited establishments.
