(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mercyme\/photos\/a.10150717831984810.468559.7789159809\/10150953649539810\/?type=3&amp;theater\">Photo<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mercyme\/\">MercyMe Music\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NASHVILLE \u2014 Contemporary Christian band MercyMe took home awards for artist of the year and pop\/contemporary album of the year and the band&#8217;s frontman, Bart Millard, was named songwriter of the year (artist) at this year&#8217;s Dove Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The Gospel Music Association held its annual awards show Tuesday in Nashville, Tennessee, with performances by Reba McEntire, CeCe Winans, Danny Gokey and Hillsong Worship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve been a band for 23 years,\u201d Millard remarked. \u201cSo yay for old people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MercyMe formed in Texas in the &#8217;90s and broke out with their platinum hit song \u201cI Can Only Imagine.\u201d MercyMe released their ninth studio album this year, \u201cLifer\u201d and they performed their single \u201cEven If\u201d during the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChristian music saved my life and it means the world to us, means the world to me,\u201d Millard said.<\/p>\n<p>Grammy-winning Winans won gospel artist of the year and contemporary gospel\/urban album of the year for her latest album, \u201cLet Them Fall In Love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other multiple winners included producer Bernie Herms, Gaither Vocal Band, NEEDTOBREATHE, and songwriters Ben Fielding and Brooke Ligertwood.<\/p>\n<p>McEntire, a country music star and actress, won her first Dove Award in the new category of bluegrass\/country\/roots album of the year for her album \u201cSing It Now: Songs of Faith and Hope,\u201d her first attempt at a gospel album.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s not mine. It&#8217;s God&#8217;s,\u201d McEntire said of the award. \u201cI am just a conduit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She ended the show with a performance of the song from her album \u201cBack to God,\u201d and \u201cSweet Home Chariot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pat Boone was honoured by SoundExchange, a performance rights organization, for being a spokesman for songwriter rights and royalties.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan Stevenson&#8217;s \u201cEye of the Storm,\u201d which tied as pop\/contemporary recorded song of the year, became an anthem for hurricane recovery as he performed in front of images of cleanup after recent storms hit several US states and territories.
