(PCOO Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Malaca\u00f1ang on Tuesday expressed regret over the rejection of Paulyn Ubial as the secretary of the Department of Health (DOH).<\/p>\n<p>The powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) has moved to reject the ad interim appointment of Ubial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe regret the Commission on Appointments\u2019 non-confirmation of Department of Health Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial,\u201d Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are deeply grateful for Sec. Ubial\u2019s service to the Health Department and for epitomizing the President\u2019s <em>malasakit\u00a0<\/em>[compassion] through her \u201cAll for Health, towards Health for All\u201d Philippine Health Agenda,\u201d Abella added. \u201cWe wish Secretary Ubial well in all her future endeavors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senate President Aquilino \u201cKoko\u201d Pimentel said \u201cthe motion to disapprove the ad interim appointed of Miss Paulyn Jean Ubial has been approved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The judgment on Ubial came after the CA committee on health carried out a session and endorsed to dismiss the secretary\u2019s appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Gregorio Honasan II, health committee chair of CA, said before the panel that after three hearings, the plenary reached a &#8220;difficult decision&#8221; to &#8220;withhold its consent to the ad interim appointment&#8221; of Ubial.<\/p>\n<p>Honasan said 13 members voted against Ubial&#8217;s confirmation with CA affirming the recommendation.<\/p>\n<p>Ubial is the fifth Cabinet member appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte to be rejected by the powerful commission.
