MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Close to 17,000 teachers, non-teaching personnel and students of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) on Friday morning honored teachers \u2013 and attempted to enter the Guinness World Records — by forming the \u201cLargest Human Sentence\u201d.<\/p>\n

As a tribute to teachers all over the world, 16,729 Thomasians formed the sentence \u201cMy Teacher is My Hero\u201d at the UST Athletic Field and open spaces in its campus in Manila.<\/p>\n

\u201cIto ang aming<\/em>\u00a0contribution\u00a0sa pambansang pagkilala ng guro sa Pilipinas<\/em>\u00a0(This is our contribution to the recognition of Filipino teachers) as we celebrate National Teachers’ Month,\u201d said Dean Allan de Guzman of the UST College of Education, which spearheaded the attempt to break the record.<\/p>\n

\u201cIto din ay alinsunod sa<\/em>\u00a0World Teacher\u2019s Day celebration\u00a0ng<\/em>\u00a0UNESCO and RA (Republic Act No.) 10743\u00a0kung saan ang mga guro ay binibigyan ng papuri at kinikilala ang kanilang tungkulin sa pagbuo ng ating pamayanan<\/em>\u00a0(This is in line with the World Teacher\u2019s Day celebration of UNESCO and RA 10743 where teachers are honored and their role in nation building is recognized),\u201d de Guzman said.<\/p>\n

The university\u2019s \u201cMy Teacher is My Hero\u201d human formation is looking to break India\u2019s record for the Largest Human Sentence in 2016 where 16,550 participants from the Rotary International District 3000, Rotary Club of Peramballur New Gen, and Roever Group of Educational Institutions Peramballur in India formed the sentence, \u201cYou can you will\u201d, during the celebration of International Youth Day.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s National Teachers\u2019 Month, themed \u201cGurong Pilipino: Kaakbay sa Progreso\u201d, is celebrated from Sept. 5 to Oct. 5, in compliance with Presidential Proclamation No. 242, as well as RA 10743, which declares Oct. 5 as National Teacher\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n

Guinness had recognized UST\u2019s entry in 2011 where 13,266 participants formed the world\u2019s largest human cross, specifically, the Dominican cross, as part of the university\u2019s quadricentennial celebration.<\/p>\n
