(Photo: World Economic Forum\/ Facebook)\" width=\"811\" height=\"810\" srcset=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/10947220_10152607711836479_1379722055746200799_n-1.png 811w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/10947220_10152607711836479_1379722055746200799_n-1-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/10947220_10152607711836479_1379722055746200799_n-1-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/10947220_10152607711836479_1379722055746200799_n-1-768x767.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 811px) 100vw, 811px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-101798\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From 2012 to 2017 reports, the Philippines landed its best ranking in 2015 at 47th spot.<br \/>(<a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/worldeconomicforum\/\">Photo: <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/web.facebook.com\/worldeconomicforum\/\">World Economic Forum\/ Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u2014 The Philippines has improved its ranking in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Competitiveness Report 2017-2018, placing 56th out of 137 economies in the latest report released Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s ranking inched up from rank 57 in last year\u2019s WEF report.<\/p>\n<p>It was noted that the country had biggest gains in pillars of higher education and training, up by three notches from the 2016 rankings; labor market efficiency, up by four notches; and market size, up by four notches.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is good to see that we have maintained our overall competitiveness and even moved one notch higher,\u201d said Makati Business Club (MBC) chairman Edgar Chua in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>From 2012 to 2017 reports, the Philippines landed its best ranking in 2015 at 47th spot.<\/p>\n<p>It ranked 65th in 2012, 59th in 2013, and 52nd in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Philippines\u2019 rankings in ASEAN declined by two spots as Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam climbed in the Global Competitiveness Index.<\/p>\n<p>From being in the top five among ASEAN member states in 2016, the country\u2019s ranking fell to rank seven.<\/p>\n<p>Brunei Darussalam\u2019s global ranking in 2016 was at 58th spot while Vietnam was at 60th. Brunei Darussalam and Vietnam\u2019s rankings improved to 46th and 55th spots in the 2017 report, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe state of Philippine infrastructure is in dire need of attention and action. While the quality of air transport infrastructure was identified as one of the country\u2019s greatest disadvantages, ranking 124th out of 137 countries, the quality of other infrastructure such as roads and ports stand as big disadvantages, as well,\u201d Chua said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, we trail behind our ASEAN neighbors in almost all measures of infrastructure.
