{"id":119087,"date":"2017-09-22T22:11:10","date_gmt":"2017-09-23T02:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/?p=119087"},"modified":"2017-09-22T22:11:10","modified_gmt":"2017-09-23T02:11:10","slug":"doj-junks-rape-raps-vs-actor-vhong-navarro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/2017\/09\/22\/doj-junks-rape-raps-vs-actor-vhong-navarro\/","title":{"rendered":"DOJ junks rape raps vs actor Vhong Navarro"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_12925\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12925\" style=\"width: 261px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Vhong-Navarro.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12925\" src=\"https:\/\/canadianinquirer.net\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Vhong-Navarro.jpg\" alt=\"FILE: Vhong Navarro \/ Wikipedia Photo\" width=\"261\" height=\"193\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12925\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">FILE: Vhong Navarro \/ Wikipedia Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>MANILA<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 The Department of Justice cleared TV host and actor Vhong Navarro in the several counts of rape case filed by model Deniece Cornejo last January 2014.<\/p>\n<p>In a 24-page review resolution signed by OIC Prosecutor General Severino Ga\u00f1a dated September 6, 2017, but was released to media on Friday, the DOJ dismissed the rape and attempted rape charges against Navarro.<\/p>\n<p>Cornejo accused Navarro of two counts of rape &#8212; by sexual intercourse and by sexual assault.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs complainant evidence stands, the same does not establish probable cause to indict respondent for the crimes he is accused of committing,\u201d read the review resolution.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ conducted three investigations in connection with the case, but the charges against Navarro were dismissed in the first two investigations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt least three investigations had been conducted into the accusations of complainant against respondent &#8212; by the DOJ\u2019s three-member panel, the Office of the City Prosecutor in Taguig and by the City Prosecutor of Manila\u2026In all three investigations, the credibility of complainant\u2019s story has been passed upon and ruled to be questionable,\u201d the DOJ review resolution stated.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ said Cornejo\u2019s version of the incident that took place on Jan. 17 and 22, 2014 \u201csuffers from a very serious credibility issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ noted that Cornejo filed two other complaints against Navarro on the same incident. However, Cornejo \u201cchanged her story each time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be sure, the voluminous records of this case was meticulously scrutinized vis-a-vis the original resolution finding probable cause.
