(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Mochablogger\/photos\/a.10150517244941522.427985.319779186521\/10155658157116522\/?type=3&amp;theater\">Photo<\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Mochablogger\">MOCHA USON BLOG\/Facebook<\/a>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) has proposed a P1.35 billion budget for 2018 during the Senate hearing on Wednesday, but senators are more concerned with how the said agency should be handling the spread of fake news with the presence of Assistant Secretary (ASec) Mocha Uson.<\/p>\n<p>PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar said that they requested an additional P245 million to battle fake news as an answer to Senator JV Ejercito\u2019s inquiry on their plans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs far as PCOO is concerned, we\u2019re already drafting an activity that will [fight] fake news through a media literacy program that we are going to be bringing to the grassroots level,\u201d the Secretary said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the agency supports Senator Joel Villanueva\u2019s bill in addressing the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Ejercito, however, said, \u201cI would have wanted Secretary Uson to answer some questions,\u201d who is currently with Senator Alan Cayetano in New York for the 72<sup>nd<\/sup> United Nations General Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>Uson, maintaining a page online \u2013 Mocha Uson Blog, is not just known for supporting the President but also for posts that feed and spread fake news to her followers.<\/p>\n<p>Andanar defended the ASec by saying that they had an agreement that her page is a personal blog that should not represent or reflect the agency she is working for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kahit na po maraming puna kay<\/em> ASec Mocha, <em>literal bina<\/em>-bash <em>siya at meron ng mga<\/em> #FireMocha <em>na lumalabas <\/em>(Even thought a lot criticize ASec Mocha, literally bash her, and there was even the #FireMocha), she still continues to fly with the President wherever he goes, especially in sensitive places. So that goes to show ASec Mocha enjoys the trust and confidence of the President,\u201d the Secretary added.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Nancy Binay, however, was more straight-to-the-point with Andanar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Ang hirap i<\/em>-separate <em>ng<\/em> (It is hard to separate the) Mocha-private citizen and Mocha the ASec, <em>lalong-lalo na\u2026<\/em> I mean how can you, Secretary Andanar, fight fake news <em>kung <\/em>may instances<em> na nanggagaling mismo sa isang <\/em>ASec <em>\u2018yung<\/em> fake news (if there are instances that the ASec herself is the one who spreads fake news)?\u201d Binay questioned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I guess \u2018<em>yun \u2018yung nagiging<\/em> (that is your) dilemma <em>mo<\/em>, how would you balance things?\u201d the Senator added.<\/p>\n<p>ASec Uson has been repeatedly caught on posting wrong information on her account, from mismatching photos and captions, and claiming truth on unconfirmed details and data. She has also criticized journalists, questioning what \u2018authentic journalism\u2019 is and calling them \u2018presstitutes\u2019 for being biased.<\/p>\n<p>Uson on her page took a screenshot of Rappler\u2019s photo of Binay\u2019s statement and replied, \u201c<em>Hindi po tayo makiki<\/em>-argue <em>pagdating sa paratang ng<\/em> fake news dahil propaganda \u2018<em>yan ng mga <\/em>against <em>sa atin. Sila ang nagpapakalat ng mali-maling impormasyon pagdating sa ating Pangulo <\/em>(I will not argue when it comes to fake news as that is just a propaganda by those against us. They are the one who spread wrong information about our President).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Kung nagkamali man po ako sa<\/em> post <em>ko dahil sa hindi pagsunod sa<\/em> \u2018standard\u2019 <em>ng pagiging<\/em> journalist, <em>pasensya na pero at least kahit kailan hindi ako nagnakaw sa bayan ko. Kayo po<\/em> Ma\u2019am<em>? Nagtatanong lang po<\/em> (If I made a mistake in my post by not following the \u2018standard\u2019 of being a journalist, I am sorry but at least I never stole anything from my country. How about you Ma\u2019am?
